Getting around
Road trip, rental car or transfer: choose your way around
Compare independent driving with arranged transport before you plan your route.
The freedom of a road trip suits some holidays; a prearranged transfer suits others. Your comfort with driving, luggage, party size and route should shape the choice, rather than simply the cheapest headline price.
Match transport to the trip
For a self drive holiday, confirm licence requirements, accepted payment cards, insurance excess, mileage and the rental deposit with the supplier. If you prefer to relax en route, request a chauffeur or group transfer and specify pickup addresses and luggage needs.
Plan the road day
Allow time for rest stops and arrival before accommodation reception closes. Confirm current road conditions with your host or operator. Keep fuel topped up and carry water on longer routes, particularly where towns are far apart.
Agree on the details
For airport collections, ask who monitors flight delays and how you will contact your driver. For shared transport, confirm the pickup window, stops and luggage allowance. A pictured vehicle is an example until the assigned class and supplier are confirmed.
